Original Short Stories: Writing’s on the Wall
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, I have managed to do that very rare thing and keep a promise that I have made about a website! As you can see this post is the story that I promised yesterday and the new history audio series will be officially launched tomorrow, I am awaiting confirmation that it is in iTunes from Apple as we speak! For a sneak peak at the history series you can now see the title and the logo on the audio page right now.
Anyway you came here to read a story so lets get on with the main event (The audiobook of this story will be online tomorrow both through iTunes and the Audio page here)
Writing’s on the Wall
By Daniel .M. Brown
Susan sat down in disbelief, she had been handed a small, blue covered book. She had flipped it open and discovered that there were no words on the pages. What was she meant to do now? She had no experience of writing and yet here she was expected to write a children’s story to be performed as part of a school assembly in front of the other classes, teachers and parents.
Her school had been attempting to raise funds for a new classroom by selling all kinds of things made by students and teachers. Now it had come down to Susan to add her own creation to the mix. Writing one of a series of short stories was not something she had hoped to do. “Can’t I just bake some cakes” She thought grudgingly taking the blank book back to her own classroom. Sitting down with it on the desk her mind was blank. A short story to be sold to staff, students and parents in two weeks time. This was ridiculous.
Three days later Susan walked into school early in the clear summers morning ready to set up her classroom for the days lessons. Stopping off at the headmistresses room just inside the doorway she greeted the new Head and handed her the book, now filled almost entirely with her spidery handwriting. There was a moment of silence as the Head looked over the pages, she picked up the general plot line of a child who discovers a talking painting, the painting changes to portraits of all kinds of people, some good, some bad, some rich and famous and some who will never be known to more than their family.
The Headmistress skimmed though the entire book, stopping at certain points to read parts in detail. The moment of silence grew longer and longer until the last page. She was thoroughly impressed.
She looked to Susan and asked in a surprised tone, “How did you come up with this?”
Susan glanced at her and smiled; “Well” She said “I looked in the mirror”.
The End.
Thank you very much for reading, make sure that you come here tomorrow to hear the new history series.
As always, look after yourself and have fun,
dan
