Hello again everybody, I hope this post finds you in good health and excellent spirits. Once again I have a more upbeat maybe even humourus story for you, and yes the twist at the end is back! I really enjoyed writing this one and I think that I will make a random post about writing these in the coming weeks as I never get a chance to really talk about the stories when I post them otherwise it obviously spoils the endings! Anyway for now remember that you can listen to me read this story over on the audio page or find the series for free in iTunes, and if it takes your fancy you can even grab your self the audiobook! Thanks for listening!
More Than One Life
By Daniel .M. Brown
He burst out of his own front door, not bothering to close it behind him. An older woman sheepishly called out to him, but he didn’t even look back. The door was closed with a sigh, tonight she would be home alone again. Andrew however would be snuggling up in the warm with somebody else.
Andrew arrived at his destination. A house not far from his own, he preferred it in this part of town, or maybe he just preferred this particular house. Somehow it appeared as if he knew that the occupant would be expecting him as he slipped silently through the back gate and to the back door. Almost instantly he had been spotted from within and a young woman opened the door for him without a single moment for him to even have to stop walking.
Darting over the doormat he quickly made his way to the living room and claimed a prime seat on the big sofa, he heard the door close and shot a glance to the young woman as she went and sat on a chair opposite. She attempted to make small talk but got no reply, so it was that they sat in silence while the television continued to churn out its endless stream of light and sound. At some point during the next hour or so Andrew fell asleep.
When he woke up he found the room to be silent and in complete darkness, it took him a moment to gain his bearings and then realised the woman must have gone to bed. This was somewhere that he wanted to be and up the stairs he bounded like there wasn’t a second to lose. He pushed the bedroom door open and left it to swing and hit the wall. He nudged the woman’s face, she was asleep, he pushed his face against hers but she still didn’t wake. He gave up and went to sleep.
The next morning he woke up to find her still asleep, but this time he wanted to get back to his own house so silently he slid away from the bed and back down the stairs in a far more subdued manner than he had ascended them the previous night. Once he reached the backdoor he discovered he couldn’t unlock it, moving to the front door he had a similar problem.
He thought of trying to get out of the window, but as he jumped up on the worktop he knocked a plate over, it fell to the floor and smashed. The sound was enough to wake the sleeper upstairs and set her off down the stairs to investigate. When she saw what had happened she shouted a few words of anger in his direction and opened the door telling him to clear off.
Andrew strolled back home nobody was in so he entered through his cat flap, took a look at the food his owner had put into his bowl and then curled up in his basket to go back to sleep.
The End.
Thanks for reading/listening,
Until the next time as always,
Look after yourself
and have fun,
dan
