Hello everybody, I hope todays post finds you all in fine spirits! Another Poliakoff DVD on the reviewers table today!
You may have seen my past reviews on Stephen Poliakoff’s works Perfect Strangers and Shooting The Past. With this review we are heading right back in time to the one of the first TV breakthroughs that he had. Caught on a Train is another fascinating little film from Poliakoff.
It runs for about 80 minutes and follows the story of one man on a train and the events that he witnesses and much to his annoyance is often a part of. It is difficult to explain the story beyond this as that is at face value all there is to it. This seems to be what makes it such compelling viewing as you are always waiting for what is going to happen next on the journey.
This was originally aired in the UK at the end of 1980 so it is interesting to see how different things were then even though it is merely three decades away, simple things like the absence of mobile phones would change the way the whole story would work out.
As you know I don’t ever like to reveal much of the story as it spoils the experience for the viewer, I will say that Caught on a Train gains a lot of its intrigue from the mismatch of the main character and a “nasty old woman” by having these two together the story throws up some very odd moments that both puzzle and fascinated me.
Another fascinating Poliakoff work well worth a look, especially if you have enjoyed his other works reviewed here.
Thanks for reading,
As always and until the next time:
Look after yourself,
and have fun,
dan
