A Fantastic book reviewed today folks, definitely not one to miss!
A Classical Education by Caroline Taggart is a short but sweet read. It weighs in at just under two hundred pages and with a relatively large text size this book could be read within a couple of days if you were so inclined, which is quite likely with this books excellent blend of humour and to the point information.
When I saw this book first off I thought it looked like a “stupid book” I am not sure exactly what I thought or what I meant by that but I was certainly wrong! It only took me a few pages in the shop to realise that this was a great little book with a surprising amount of knowledge and information contained within its pages.
The basic premise of the book is to be a light hearted look at the classical period of history, referring to Ancient Rome and Greece. It goes through themed chapters which take the reader through key moments in Greek and Roman history as well as bringing up key points in Ancient art, philosophy and beliefs.
The book is in no way as daunting as it sounds as it is aimed at the new comer with only “quick guide” style introductions to ideas, events and people that are consistently pumped full of one liners and other jokes. It is the ideal book for somebody who either already knows a bit on the subjects and just wants a laugh or for a complete novice looking for a quick overview of what is what in the ancient world!
I definitely recommend it to anybody reading this site who may have discovered this place from my podcasts. It I such an easy and enjoyable read that I am sure the fact that there is a chance we may all learn something from it is merely an added bonus!
Another book that gets the inverted hourglass seal of approval!
Thanks for reading,
As always and until the next time:
Look after yourself,
and have fun,
dan
